The Historic Arnstein Building in Downtown Knoxville, Tennessee

The Arnstein Building In Its Prime

Built in 1906, the Arnstein Building in Historic Downtown Knoxville was the city’s first steel framed building. Standing at seven stories, it was the tallest building in Knoxville at the time of its construction, leading many locals to call it Knoxville’s “skyscraper.”

During its heyday, the building was host to The M. B. Arnstein Company, a retail store specializing in imported and high-end goods including its famous imported Irish linen.

Currently the Arnstein Building is undergoing a massive renovation project, and DeVol Millwork has been contracted to build all new windows for this historic building. These new custom-build windows, including the prominent sunburst window on the front of the building, will frame spectacular views of Krutch Park, Market Square and the Downtown Knoxville skyline.

Prominent retail space will be available on the first floor, while the second and third floors will be set aside for commercial office space. The fourth through seventh floors will house luxury apartments.

DeVol Millwork was brought on to create custom windows and specialty woodwork items for Knoxville’s traditional English gastropub.

Harking back to the old-world look of Great Britain, DeVol millwork created a number of features throughout the bar with an emphasis on premium woods that would complement the bar and restaurant’s Euro feel.
